You need a component, a screen, a quick visual asset. AI promises to deliver it in seconds. It delivers well, but only with one detail many people ignore: the brief.
Variation is its strong suit. You ask for 3 versions of a button and in 30 seconds you have 3 options to choose from. Spacing, states (hover, focus, disabled), basic responsiveness, AI handles all of this well because it is repetitive, predictable work.
What it does not handle, and should not, is creative decision-making. The brand identity, the hierarchy that tells the product's story, the choice between serious or playful typography. Those decisions need to come from you.
A weak brief delivers a generic result. Instead of asking for "a nice button", describe what defines the component. The more specific, the better the output.
Create a primary button in React + Tailwind. Three states: default, hover and disabled. Keyboard accessible, visible focus. Radius 12px, light shadow on hover, no gradient. Accent color #ed6f5c, white text. No external dependencies.
This brief pattern cuts 80% of the iterations. You get out of the loop of asking, checking, fixing and checking again. The AI already delivers close to what you wanted.
A whole screen generated at once comes out generic. The way to go is component by component, with the same visual brief reused in every prompt. Instead of copying and pasting the brief 10 times, save it as a template.
Three stumbles always come up. The first is accepting the first version. Variations help you discover what you prefer. The second is asking for a component without defining its states, a forgotten hover becomes rework tomorrow. The third is trusting the result blindly, AI invents class names that do not exist and variables out of scope.
A detailed brief delivers 80% of the result. The final 20% is still yours.
No. It speeds up variation, spacing and component states. Creative decisions, identity and taste remain human. The gain is in handing off the repetitive work.
You can, but the result comes out generic. It is better to ask component by component. Product card, then header, then list. Consistency between them comes from the repeated brief.
Set the visual brief first. Typography, palette, radius, shadow, spacing rhythm. Reuse that brief in every prompt. AI does not invent identity, it applies the one you defined.
